If you are experiencing USB errors (errors in kernel log, corrupted images, lack of images), make sure you don't have a VIA USB controller (use "lspci" to determine this). The VIA 82C586 chip and possibly other VIA USB chips don't work under Linux. Email the maintainer of your UHCI driver instead. Also, see this page for info on defective USB devices.
